Mme Maria Koubarakos

Saint-Lazare

1929 – 2022

She had many nieces and nephews that she adored, including Potitsa (Christos), Vieno (Socrates), Niki (Andreas), Antonia (Tom), Asimia (Sam), Anastasios (Eleni), John (Roula), Dino and so many more. Born in Greece, Maria experienced great sorrow, hardship and happiness. She married her husband and sailed across the Atlantic to a better life in Canada with her four young boys in tow. She worked tirelessly to care for her family. The tragic loss of her husband at the young age of 33 left her bereft and alone to take care of her children. She found solace with her many friends and family and in particular from her sister, Georgia, with whom she shared a very special bond. She was fiercely independent and travelled all over the city of Montreal by bus. She would always have a smile and some candy in her purse for her grandchildren and looked after them with great joy. She spent her life in service to others, never complained, always put others first and was beloved by her family. Maria was the epitome of selflessness and grace. Her generosity knew no bounds. Her absence will be felt in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a devout Greek Orthodox. Maria loved her garden, sewing and cooking. Her final years were spent with her great-granddaughter, Clara, where they laughed, ate cookies and chips and danced.

Her funeral will be held Thursday august 18 at the Greek Orthodox Community of the West Island . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Canada.
